The Blessed Virgin of the Annunciation is the virgin of fisherpeople in Baiona par excellence. One of the most picturesque celebrations in the region is, precisely, the 9-p.m. procession around the town centre with the image. Streets and balconies are adorned with flags and garlands and, once the procession is over, a skyrocket show starts.
That day fishermen perform their 15th-century Sword Dance after the image of the Virgin. The Patroness celebrations last all the weekend long -Saturday, Sunday and Monday. This particular Monday is called "Old Ladies' Monday", as bagpipes are played for elderly people.
